A Photo A Day for October
Inspired by this video from Evan Monsma, I am embarking on a photo-a-day project for the month of October. Part 1 of the plan is to take one Polaroid a day of whatever catches my eye. There are no constraints on subject matter or time of day, with the goal being to get into the rhythm of using my creative muscle to generate something tangible. I'll be using two cameras for this- a Polaroid OneStep Sears Special and a Polaroid OneStep Close Up, both thrifted before old Polaroid camera prices skyrocketed. Why Polaroid? It's an instant, physical medium. I love analog photography, but for this project to keep me invested to build the creative habit I need instant feedback. The 35mm and 120 formats, while I love them, simply do not offer that same immediate reward a Polaroid provides. Plus, the soft focus, high-key look of Polaroid film scratches an itch in my brain. A bit of that is probably nostalgia that brings back memories of being a child in the 90s, just like Shark Bites and stonewashed, elastic waist-banded jorts. I also like the idea of creating photos of present-day subjects with a bit of an anachronistic look to them- like the objects, people, or places themselves have traveled back in time to an earlier era. I'll post updates here on the feed if you'd like to track my progress, but I'm not going to post the photos until the month is complete and I finish part 2. Oh, by the way- there will be a part 2 to this that I'll talk about as October starts to wind down, so check back later for that!
